Healing the Wounds of Trauma Workshops

Introduction

The scars of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis in Rwanda run deep, leaving in its wake countless individuals, men, women, and children, bearing the heavy burden of trauma. Survivors grapple with the enduring weight of their past, while perpetrators wrestle with shame, self-judgment, and a diminished sense of self. Recognizing the urgent need for healing, unity, and reconciliation, the church has embarked on a mission to contribute to restoring the fabric of Rwandan society. In line with this vision, we have initiated a series of workshops dedicated to healing the wounds of trauma, founded on principles of repentance and forgiveness, in pursuit of genuine reconciliation and lasting peace.

Project Details

These transformative workshops are conducted in four key regions across Rwanda where our churches are located: Nyarutarama, Murama, Miyove in Northern Province's Gicumbi District, and Kayonza in Eastern Province's Kayonza District. Our goal is to extend this initiative to encompass the entire nation as providence allows. Each workshop, which costs $490, is a beacon of hope for participants seeking healing and understanding. We conduct 15 workshops annually, totaling $7,350 per year.

However, our most pressing challenge lies in transportation, as reaching distant regions necessitates substantial travel. To address this, we are in need of a second-hand car, estimated to cost between $10,000 and $15,000.
